Arush Lal is a doctoral candidate at the London School of Economics & Political Science, where his research explores the politics of norms that shape global health governance and diplomacy, focusing on the construction, convergence, and coherence of global health security and universal health coverage at global and national levels. His research has been published in The Lancet and BMJ Global Health, featured in platforms like CNN and Politico, and cited by the U.S. and U.K. governments, WHO, USAID, World Bank, OECD, and the G7 Pandemic Preparedness Partnership, among others. Arush recently served as Senior Technical Advisor for Health Integration on the USAID COVID-19 Response Team, where he supported long-term planning for pandemic preparedness and response and integration across public and primary health care systems. He has been appointed Commissioner on the Chatham House Commission for Universal Health (co-chaired by Prime Minister Helen Clark and President Jakaya Kikwete) and Board Member and former inaugural Vice Chair for Women in Global Health (spanning over 50 chapters and 75,000 supporters committed to a gender-transformative, intersectional health and care workforce). Arush was also a Community & Civil Society Representative for the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator and Advisor to the Primary Health Care Performance Initiative (PHCPI) and its 120+ organizational network.
Arush has supported strategic advocacy and policy guidance across a range of related topics, including health system resilience, community health workforce, health information systems, gender equity, pooled procurement and supply chain strengthening, and youth engagement. His work has spanned multilateral, government, and civil society roles, including at the World Health Organization, World Bank, Pan American Health Organization, U.S. Office of Pandemics & Emerging Threats (HHS/OGA), IntraHealth International, and Partners in Health, among others. Arush has been recognized as a Gates Foundation Goalkeeper, WHO/UNICEF Primary Health Care Young Leader, Women Deliver Young Leader, Georgia Tech 40 Under 40 Alumni, and former Fellow at Emerging Voices for Global Health and Global Health Corps. He completed an MSc in Health Policy, Planning & Financing from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine as a Rotary Global Scholar, and a BSc in Business Administration from the Georgia Institute of Technology as a President’s Scholar.
